Texas Eastern Transmission is a pipeline operated by Texas Eastern Transmission, LP and owned by Enbridge. It start operations in 1942 and runs for 9.908 miles transports a total of 10.810 million cubic feet of natural gas. The pipeline runs from the Gulf of Mexico through Mississipi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania delivering gas in the New York area.

  • The pipeline had explosions in 1985 and 1986 caused by corrosion in parts of the line that have not been updated since the 1970’s. These explosions ended causing two fatalities.
  • In August 2019, the pipeline had an explosion that affected a mobile home park in Lincoln County, Kentucky. It resulted in one person dead, multiple injuries and incinerated properties.
  • In 2018, an explosion occurred, creating a fireball and damaging homes. It reportedly destroyed two homes and injured to people, Enbridge claimed it had immediately started shutdown protocols for that segment of the pipeline and was working with authorities.
  • In 2003, the pipeline ruptured at a terminal in Douglas County, Wisconsin and crude oil flowed into the Nemadji River, over one hundred thousand gallons were spilled.
  • An oil spill occurred when the pipeline failed in Samaria, Michigan. One and thirty barrels of oil were spilled.
