Since the late 1960’s Eni Petroleum US Operating Company has focused  on natural gas and oil exploration and production. The company has operations in Houston, Alaska, and Louisiana. Eni Petroleum US has reported  a net production of over 90,000 barrels of oil each day.

Eni Petroleum and Oil Rig Dangers

There have been accidents reported involving Eni workers, contractors, or platform lease holdings which includes the following situations:

  • March 6th, 2019 – A crane collapsed and killed one worker and injured two others about 60 miles from the port of Ancona in the Adriatic
  • A worker was restarting a compressor when the machine backfired which caused fuel gas to ignite. As a result, a small fire was created around the machine’s exhaust expansion joint. While the fire was put out with a handheld fire extinguisher, some damage was done.
  • A small fire occurred on the oil rig when a turbine generator exhaust inside the generator room came into contact with lubricating oil that had leaked onto the turbine exhaust. Fortunately, the fire was quickly extinguished.
  • A welding worker died after being caught in a pollution pan that was not properly secured and falling.  Hall-Houston had contracted Hercules Offshore to do the welding work on a lease partially owned by Eni Petroleum.
  • While lowering plastic five gallon buckets of paint down by rope in the leg of the rig (hatchway), the rope broke.  A GSF employee passing by at the time was struck by a bucket and received a shoulder injury.

Oil Rig Workers and Asbestos

After being widely used by companies for many years, medical journals later documented the many dangers presented by frequent exposure to asbestos. One of the deadliest diseases that is caused by exposure to asbestos is mesothelioma.

There are various laws that prohibit use of asbestos, but there are still many structures that use asbestos which creates a substantial risk to oil rig workers.
