Accident Reports & Century Offshore
Accidents have been reported involving Century Offshore over the years including the following:
- A single engine helicopter exploded when it collided with the rig’s platform. The pilot and two passengers were seriously injured while another passenger was killed. Improper approach and pilot error are cited as the cause of the accident.
- A small fire erupted in the meter shack due to electrical wiring which resulted in two employees seeking medical treatment for eye irritation.
Offshore Workers and Asbestos
Asbestos was used for many years in multiple applications on offshore oil rigs. For many workers in the field, it is possible that they were exposed to asbestos at some point. Prolonged or frequent exposure to asbestos has been determined to cause many serious conditions including asbestosis and mesothelioma.
While a large number of offshore oil structures do not contain asbestos any longer, there is still a risk that workers can be harmed by the material. It is also important to note that in some cases, workers might have been exposed to asbestos many years ago but symptoms have only become noticeable in recent years.
