Hartford Mesothelioma Lawsuits

According to news reports, Connecticut has seen very few jury verdicts in the state. Many cases settle before trial for an undisclosed amount of money. In one recent case, the Connecticut Supreme Court in Harford upheld a ruling from the Compensation Review Board in 2012 in which the board awarded workers’ compensation benefits to the estate of a man who died from asbestos-related lung cancer when he was 69. The man had worked at Electric Boat from 1961 to 1998. The family presented evidence from medical experts who concluded that the man was exposed to asbestos while working as a rigger who dumped waste that contained asbestos from submarine ships and that the exposure was a substantial factor in the man’s lung cancer. The case was remanded to the Workers’ Compensation Commissioner to determine the amount of benefits the family would receive. The family had previously secured compensation under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act.
