Accidents and Northern Natural Gas Workers

Several reports have shown Northern Natural Gas to be involved in the following accidents:

  • In 2012, two workers were working with equipment when a natural gas line was struck. A fire resulted that raged for several hours and resulted in both of the men receiving very serious injuries that required hospitalization. The leak of chemicals at oil rigs is also known to result in explosions. In many cases, these accidents are caused by adverse weather condition or machinery that is not properly maintained.
  • A  worker was struck by a piece of equipment that was unsafely placed on an elevated surface by construction crews. Each year, there are a number of accidents that involve construction workers either falling from elevated surfaces or being struck by falling objects. Some of the other causes for these accidents include construction scaffolding that is not properly assembled and workers falling through elevated construction areas that are not properly barricaded.
  • There are several reports of small fires at Northern Natural Gas oil rigs. Sometimes, these accidents are caused by unknown factors while other times the accidents occur due to faulty equipment.
  • Recent Texas & Louisiana Oil Rig Accidents

Clovelly Oil Rig Explosion Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana Jefferson Parish officials: Seven have been hospitalized and one person is dead.

Slatex Oil Rig Fall Saratoga, Hardin County Sheriff: A man fell from an elevated position and was killed.

The Danger of Asbestos for Northern Natural Gas Workers

A large number of oil exploration and production companies used asbestos for many years to achieve a variety of needs, but medical research has since revealed the strong connection between asbestos and deadly types of cancer. While laws have nearly eliminated the use of asbestos in new buildings, there is a risk that workers might be exposed to asbestos contained in older buildings and structure.
