Founded in 1968 and headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda, Nabors Industries focuses on natural gas and geothermal drilling and is the largest land driller in the world with approximately 500 rigs working in over 25 countries. Accidents Reported Involving Nabors

There are several ways in which accidents have occured including:

  • In 1998, during the final stages of rigging up operations, the upper substructures tilted and slid to the side to which the upper substructure had been skidded. As a result of this skid, two workers fell into the sea. One of the workers was never found and presumed dead, while the other worker fell onto a barge and was fatally injured. Failure by workers to follow safety protocols as well as structures that collapse because they are not properly assembled are a leading cause of serious accidents.
  • In 2001, a Nabors Industries worker slipped and fell while performing maintenance resulting in the worker’s death. Injuries and fatalities aboard oil rigs can be very deadly and even fatal. Many times, workers either strike hard surfaces or fall into the water.
  • In 2004, a worker was struck in the head by an 8 inch vent pipe the worker was attempting to remove. The pipe had been lifted by the air hoist but had not tied and suspended at the center. The worker was injured as a result of this collision sustained cuts to the forehead and back of head as well as swelling in the face and head requiring the worker to be transported to a nearby medical facility via helicopter.

Oil Rig Workers and the Threat of Asbestos

Many companies in the oil and gas industry used asbestos at some point, but medical research has since established the material is particularly deadly nature and can severely harm workers. Regulations have since been created to prohibit the placement of the material in new buildings, but there is still a risk that people might become harmed by the substance.
