The Shriners Hospital for Children is a 30 bed hospital in Galveston for burn patients. The Shriners Hospital also serves as a teaching center for the University of Texas Medical Branch. While the hospital is one of three Shriner’s Hospitals focused on providing treatment for burn patients, the hospitals contains 15 beds in addition to 3 operating room. The hospital has been certified by both the American Burn Association and the Joint Commission Accreditation of Health Organizations. The hospital’s origins can be traced to 1962 when the Shriners of North America dedicated $10 million to establish burn centers.
