LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN, LOUISIANA —

Jefferson Parish officials: Seven have been hospitalized and one person is missing after an oil rig caught fire and exploded Sunday night at Lake Pontchartrain; north of  Kenner Louisiana.

Five people rescued from the oil rig are in critical condition and are being treated for blast type injuries at University Medical Center in New Orleans. The other two were taken to East Jefferson General Hospital in New Orleans and are said to be in stable condition.

The oil rig is reportedly operated by Clovelly Oil, Lot 41 where the transfer of oil is conducted and may have caused oil to leak into Lake Pontchartrain.

Roger Fernandez has captured video of the rig on fire close to 8:00 pm not long after Kenner Police started receiving phone calls around 7:19pm
